Adam Merry, Nancy Jiang, Joaquín López and Lucas Nanchen have been elected as new PTRA Board members in the Extraordinary General Assembly that was held online on Wednesday 5th July and where major decisions were taken, like the approval of the new statutes of the Association.
The Pro Trail Runners Association has 4 new board members that join Kaytlyn Gerbin, Fred Tranchand, Francesco Puppi, Pascal Egli, Corrine Malcolm and Eszter Csillag who have been ruling the association since its creation in november 2022. This decision has been taken in order to be more diverse and geographically inclusive and was approved in an Extraordinary General Assembly. The new board members are elite athletes like Adam Merry, from the United States; Joaquín López, from Ecuador; Nancy Jiang, from New Zealand but born in China; and Lucas Nanchen, from Switzerland and who also has been presented as lawyer of the Association.
The Extraordinary General Assembly had also the main goal of approving the new Statutes, which have important changes regarding the age for joining the PTRA (now it’s down to 16 years old), the loss of membership for reasons like being positive in a doping test or retirement. It also improved the legal organization of PTRA, a non profit organization under the Swiss Law, and set a small membership fee in order to be financially self-sufficient.
In his 6 months of life, the PTRA has created several working groups regarding topics like anti-doping, competitions, environment, equality and diversity or professionalism and contract fairness that try to improve the global situation of the sport, work for the athletes rights and help them to be more professional. During the Extraordinary General Assembly the Working Groups presented all the work that has been done plus the short, mid and long term goals. It was a really important gathering in order to settle the ground of PTRA and be stronger for the future.
