Since last year, the PTRA has been involved in the World Athletics (WA) Advisory Group on Mountain and Trail Running. This working group has been organized by World Athletics to advise the WA Competition Commission on all things regarding mountain and trail. Together with International Trail Running Association, World Mountain Running Association, IAU and WA representatives, we are working to address the growth, integrity and development needs of international mountain and trail running through a collaborative approach with key partners.

Some topics on the agenda have been:
- Global Calendar/Label Program for Mountain and Trail races
- Future and business model of the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships
- Devise possible future pathways to bring the sport to the Olympics
- Provide a better understanding of what Mountain and Trail Running is within the World Athletics ecosystem
- Anti-doping programme and liaison with the Athletics Integrity Unit
- Marketing regulations for events and athletes
- International event technical regulations and officials training
- Creation of a system that really works for the interest of the sport and its athletes

Mountain and Trail Running is becoming more and more central in World Athletics’ plans for the years ahead – especially as the organization doubles up on its efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and participation in the sport at all levels. The PTRA is proud to contribute and advise on this project.
